“Luminance” Series
|| Advanced Drawing, St. Olaf College ||
|| January, 2011 ||
The final project of my Advanced Drawing Course involved creating a series, along with an artist's statement, and have it displayed somewhere on campus. This set was shown in Regents Hall of Science during Spring Semester of 2011.
Artist's Statement:
At times when I've felt the most inadequate, I've always wished for someone to remind me that there is a certain but unspoken value and worth present in the unexceptional.
In science, it can be noted that all things, living or non, contain within them some sort of potential energy. Every single person, regardless of their appearance, talent, intelligence, or upbringing, emits energy from their body as long as they live.
The unimportant things we encounter every day also emit or reflect light and energy.
For some reason, I find something really comforting in that thought.
